Mayor Candidates
My name is Lajos Mayer I am honored to announce my candidacy for Mayor of Randwick With over a decade of experience running the beloved Vine Tree in Randwick alongside my wife and our two sons, Maxi and Lenny, I have developed a deep understanding and appreciation for the values and needs of our community. Both my son in the local school and Randwick Football Club, I have witnessed firsthand the strength and resilience of our residents. Throughout my time at the Vine Tree, I have cultivated strong relationships with members of our community and have always strived to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all. I am committed to leveraging this experience and dedication to serve as a passionate advocate for the people of Randwick. My name is Lajos Mayer, and I am driven by a vision of a thriving and united community where every voice is heard and every individual is valued. I believe that by working together, we can overcome challenges, embrace opportunities, and build a brighter future for all. I am excited about the possibility of serving as your Mayor and look forward to the opportunity to bring positive change and progress to our amazing Community .
Hi, my name is Nick and I am honoured to be nominated for Mayor of Randwick. Having lived in the village for 23 years I know a lot of you, but for the benefit of those I don’t here is a bit about me:
I am an active member of the community; I sit as a councillor on the Parish Council and until recently was a governor at Marling School. I am President of Randwick Football Club, coach our Under 11 team and believe it or not still play regular Saturday football! As a member of the FC you will see me on Wap day in yellow and black as a dutiful chair carrier, but I’m hoping this year that I might get a year off!
I have been involved in the Wap since moving into the village – in the early days I volunteered my labour then quickly got drawn into the magic of this wonderful tradition. I served for a number of years as Vice Chair of the Wap Committee and have supplied equipment and resources from my day job in live events to help grow the Wap from its Medieval roots to the great event it is today.
My daughter Tabitha has been a Princess, Flower Girl, Cheese Bearer and Mop Man’s Apprentice and Queen of the May, and my son a Flag Boy and Mop Man’s Apprentice. My wife was High Sheriff and in 2010 I was the Sword Bearer. After all this time and commitment to the Wap I would love to finally be its Mayor.
I am honoured to have been nominated as a Wap personality this year. The Cratchley family has been traced back over three centuries in Randwick. I have lived in the village all of my life except for the first eight or so years of marriage when we first set up home in faraway Cashes Green. During this time, we had our only son Michael who I am proud to say is very much involved in village life, especially the Wap.
Cheese Rolling and the Wap is a tradition I enjoy and give my support to in any way I can. I have previously been nominated and voted Mayor in 1984 when I was only 19. Now 40 years on and in my 60th year, how could I resist the opportunity to be involved again.
I have been part of several village organisations over the years and support both pubs, historically representing both at Darts and Quoits.
Currently I am Randwick Cricket Club President and Treasurer having previously played and been involved since the early 80s.
I run, and am captain of the Randwick Cricketers Skittles team which I have done for at least the last 25 years.
I look forward to seeing you for the Wap celebrations.
Brian
